History of King Humberto II
Once upon a time there was a King named Umberto II, the “King of May” and the last one of Italy. He chose Portugal as his secret destination, and within the well-known Portuguese family of Pinto Basto, he found his exile in the family’s residence in Cascais, the current Villa D’Este. He lived in this house for 11 years (1950-1961) until a group of loyal monarchists funded the definitive home of the King, next to Villa D’Este, named by Umberto himself as Villa Itália.
For decades the King’s house has hosted the most lavish parties with a stunning view over Cascais’ bay. It is with this scenery that in 2004, one of the most sublime hotels of the Lisbon region emerges, the Grande Real Villa Itália Hotel & SPA whose highest aspiration is to offer it’s guests an exclusively welcoming experience of supreme luxury. This is our story – We invite you to visit us and write a new chapter. Have you ever wondered what it’s like to sleep in the home of the King?
